The playoffs are upon us, beginning officially on the 14th of March! After lengthy discussion and inevitable vote, the decision was finally made to have the opposing divisions meet under three brackets seeded by the division results:
Proposal B: Division playoffs without continuity
-The regular season consists of two divisions (A & B) and, within each, generates three playoff divisions (I, II, & III) based on points and goal difference from regular season
-Teams do not carry their points or GD into the playoffs
-Within each playoff division, each team plays every other team
-Final standings are based on total points and GD from the playoff division, with playoff division I determining 1st-6th place, division II 7th-12th, and division III 13th-18th
Though the points do not carry over, the final standings will make for interesting comparisons and psychological play, with teams not only playing teams from the opposing division, but also re-playing teams from their own, resulting in heated competition and shit-talking as teams try to defend or beat their current league standings.
The games will be played following the same format as division games – three 10 minute “chukkers,” first to five, where a win counts for 3 points, a draw gives 1 point to both teams, and a loss is 0. Teams have 6 weeks to play their playoff fixtures and can play teams in any order they choose (multiple fixtures in one evening/day are allowed and, no doubt, encouraged).

This was an epic game in terrible conditions. It was below freezing with most of the court covered in ice.
Zombie pretty much controlled the ball for most of the first two games. The third game was more even.
Hassan and Mike fell more in each game than the all of the Skids did during the entire match. Max fell less than his teammates, but when did fall it was much harder. Mike was smiling throughout all of his falls.
Zombie had a lot of on-target shots, but John was a wall in goal. Venn was in fire the final game. He scored all four goals.

First round has gone by without too much trouble. We have lost one team from the league (Rotten Apples), but a replacement (made up of mystery players called the Heythrop Bike Polo Society) have stepped up. This may be the first instance of new players starting up in London independently from the usual crew. Exciting!
